I have had multiple cats treated here and have received nothing but the best treatment from everyone involved! They truly love and care for animals and are very compassionate. My most recent visits with my cat Sammy have been very difficult as his tests show nothing is wrong but he has stopped eating several times. They have given me many options and ideas on how to help my boy, I wouldn't think of going anywhere else.
I've always had positive experiences bring my cat here. The nurses are personable and connect with Shadow and myself. The doctors have always been caring and honest. I've been bringing Shadow here his whole life, almost 13 years now and they always provide quality care at a fair price.
We made an appointment because the clinic is very close to our home and we have been in before for less urgent situations, and they said they could see her at 5 pm. We took her in to the Altoona Vet Hospital and the nurse at the front desk was extremely kind and compassionate towards our dog, clearly wanting the best outcome for her.
Edit: Thank you for your kind response, Dr. Williams.
He stated that it was 5:15 pm and that they didn't have the ability or the time to care for her, making my pup seem like a nuisance. I was already distressed about her condition and think he could have handled the situation in a much more tactful and brief manner so we would have gotten Hazel to emergency care more quickly.
I do not doubt AVH gives wonderful care, but the treatment we received was unnecessary and devoid of any empathy whatsoever. From now on I will be taking my pets elsewhere.
I know there's already a lot of reviews on here. But I'll throw my opinion into the hat. I'm cutting ties with this vet. I want to remain anonymous on here and not make any enemies. But I will say to potential pet owners, be wary of these people trying to get you in for unnecessary visits and tests. They will site specific possible issues and ask you to come in for small unnecessary visits in order to make money off of you. If you resist these tactics, the vets will use fear and guilt with you as a way to get you to cave in on their recommendations for tests and multiple vet visits. And I'm sure the vet will respond to this by saying that all of their concerns are legitimate. And that's the beauty of their situation. We don't know any better as pet owners. So the vet can say those things all day long and we cannot refute them. But I do know my gut feeling when I am being scammed. And when a vet is trying to make me feel guilty or that I am a bad pet owner in order to get me to spend more money, that's the point where I know something is wrong and it's time to get a second opinion. All that being said, the techs and receptionists are friendly. They're pretty prompt in seeing your pet, so if it's an emergency it's not a terrible place to go. But be very wary of tactics used to get you to pay them more money. I'm not trying to be a jerk or badmouth a company. I have no hard proof of anything that I've leveled against them. All I can go off of is my gut and the huge amount of money that I have spent that has lead to absolutely no results with my pet.
Our dog was extremely ill after having a seizure that caused her to be extremely lethargic; she had temporary neurological issues that made her walk irregularly, randomly, and fall down frequently; she was vomiting blood and was not at all her normal self. We think she may have gotten into something poisonous on the farm where she resides.
Took very good care of both my dogs.
We were sent into an exam room to wait for the doctor and when he came in (Dr. Williams, I think?) he was condescending and shamed us for bringing her in because of her dire condition. He went through all of her symptoms - which I was already completely and wholly aware of - and scolded us for even bringing her in when she should have gone to an emergency vet hospital.
They referred us to Iowa Veterinary Specialties and called them to let them know we would be coming in so they would be prepared to immediately care for Hazel. IVS has done a phenomenal job and they are all kind and caring, and Hazel is completely back to normal!
